Did the advertisements and hype work?

Let me start out by saying I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! With the economy down retailers have really been pushing the hype for black friday sales. I know it has nothing to do with politics per say, but I am just curious. Did the hype work? How many of you went out for black friday shopping? And if you did what was the best deal you got? Did you wait all day in any crazy lines??

  1. I think that the advertisements MIGHT have worked, but most people are going to go shopping on Black Friday, regardless. It's a tradition for some families. It's the excitement of the first day of Christmas shopping. People are going to go out partly for the deals but also for the excitement. I think that the ads are just fuel to the fire, most people are already planning on going.

  2. I was super excited about the hype. Typically each Christmas I don’t do any black Friday shopping, but with I have to cut back. So yes I looked at the paper and the buzz very quickly spread within my circles of communication about the best deals to be had. The best one I found was at Best Buy with the Sharp 42 inch TV for $200. However, people were camping out days ahead of time to get a ticket to purchase one of these limited quantity items. I finished my camping days outside Best Buy back in 2000 when PS2 was released, so I was at home sleeping quietly in my bed. However I did go out and shop the black Friday sales at Macys. The temptation of getting an item at 80% off was just too much to let pass. I really like the advertising this year. Marketers started early and often sending emails and mailers well in time for me to play my shopping day attack.

  3. I think the hype definitely worked with getting people out for Black Friday shopping. I personally did not go Black Friday shopping and that is really because I don't want to deal with the crazy crowds. I heard about all the negative results from Black Friday, and it is saddening that people really go to violence to just get the best deal. I think Black Friday is a great opportunity for people to get great deals, but when people turn to violence I think it is just getting out of hand.

  4. First off, I love your title of your blog simply because it is honest and catchy. There are probably many people who feel the same way about those kind of things. I think the hype would for sure!! Because I know that many other people have posted about the Black Friday deals and they said it was a great hit. I know that as long as they offer it .. I will participate. It is almost becoming an American tradition that more and more are falling into but they cannot help it. It is great!
